Advanced Administration for Windows 2000

his course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform advanced administration tasks in a Windows 2000 network. The course focuses on the administrative tasks required for centrally managing large numbers of users and computers.

The topics covered in this course include:

  • Managing access to domain resources
  • Implementing groups in a multi-domain environment
  • Administering Active Directory
  • Exploring Windows 2000 Group Policy
  • Using Group Policy to manage user and computer environments
  • Using software installation policy
  • Implementing the distributed file system (Dfs)
  • Implementing enterprise-wide security
  • Implementing disaster protection

At Course Completion

At the completion of this course, students will be able to manage user access to resources in multiple domains; implement groups in a multi-domain environment; administer Active Directory, which includes managing objects and delegating administrative control of objects; identify how Group Policy is applied to Active Directory objects; use Group Policy to configure user environments, computer configurations, log on and log off scripts, and startup and shutdown scripts; use software installation policy to manage software distribution; implement Dfs to share file resources; implement security by using account policies, local policies, and audit policies; and implement a disaster recovery strategy.

Prerequisites

  • Course 1556, Administering Microsoft Windows 2000, or equivalent knowledge. This includes creating and administering user accounts and groups, managing network resources, setting up and administering permissions for files and folders, creating and administering printers, and backing up and restoring files and folders.
  • Course 1557, Installing and Configuring Microsoft Windows 2000, or equivalent skills and knowledge. This includes installing Windows 2000, configuring hard disks and partitions, installing and configuring network protocols and services, installing and configuring Active Directory, and configuring various types of Windows 2000 servers, including file, print, and Web servers.
