Creating and Managing a Web Server Using Microsoft Internet Information Server (K2)

Course No. 936 • Three days

Because some parts of the course are currently being developed, some elements of this syllabus are subject to change.

his course updates course 826, Creating and Configuring a Web Server Using Microsoft Tools. As in 826, this course teaches students how to support the various features of the new Microsoft® Internet Information Server, code-named "K2." Students will gain understanding of the product's architecture and perform the procedures to install, configure, and support Internet Information Server.

At Course Completion

At the end of the course, students will be able to determine what Microsoft products are needed to create a specific Internet site; install Internet Information Server; add support for file transfer protocol (FTP), World Wide Web, and database connections; describe the architecture of Internet Information Server; describe the security architecture; in a specific situation, determine what type of security (Microsoft Windows NT® Server security or Internet Information Server security) should be used; configure Internet Information Server to connect to a database using Open Database Connectivity (ODBC); list the features and components of Microsoft Management Console (MMC); use the Internet Service Manager snap-in for MMC to administer Internet Information Server; create and use virtual directories and virtual servers; plan a complete Internet site, including determining necessary hardware, estimating bandwidth, and specifying the appropriate connectivity methods; explain the role of Internet service providers (ISPs); monitor and interpret performance data about Internet Information Server; maintain a log for tuning purposes; troubleshoot problems; explain the features and functions of ODBC connections and Active Server Pages; use Active Server scripting to connect to a database; explain the features and functions of the Microsoft NetShow™ server; configure Internet Information Server to support NetShow; explain the features and functions of

Microsoft Index Server; configure Internet Information Server to support Index Server; use Index Server to create a search index; and explain the features and functions in the Microsoft FrontPage™ Web authoring and management tool that can be used to administer a Web site.

Microsoft Certified Professional Exam

This course helps you prepare for the following Microsoft Certified Professional exam:

  • 70-077, Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Internet Information Server 3.0 and Microsoft Index Server 1.1

Prerequisites

Successfully complete the following Microsoft Certified Professional exams:

  • 70-067, Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0
  • 70-059, Internetworking Microsoft TCP/IP on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

Or complete the following courses:

  • Course 659, Supporting Microsoft Windows NT Server 3.51; course 694, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Technical Support Training (self-study course); or course 687, Supporting Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Core Technologies
  • Course 472, Internetworking Microsoft TCP/IP on Microsoft Windows NT 3.51; or course 688, Internetworking Microsoft TCP/IP on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

Or be able to accomplish these tasks:

  • Install TCP/IP on the Windows NT Server network operating system:
  • Explain how dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP), Windows® Internet Naming Service (WINS), and domain name system (DNS) can be used to resolve TCP/IP addresses
  • Obtain and use a TCP/IP address from a service provider
  • Explain the Windows NT Server 4.0 and DNS domain structure
  • Assign permissions to users and groups

The course materials, lectures, and lab exercises are in English. To benefit fully from our instruction, students need an understanding of the English language and completion of the prerequisites.
