Preliminary Course Syllabus
Supporting Microsoft "Wolfpack"

Course No. 958 • Two days

Because some parts of the course are currently being developed, some elements of this syllabus are subject to change.

This course provides the foundation for supporting the Microsoft® "Wolfpack" clustering technology product. The goal of this course is to provide support professionals with the skills necessary to install, configure, customize, and troubleshoot "Wolfpack." Content is delivered through technical information, labs, and demonstrations. Students will learn how to plan a "Wolfpack" deployment and how to install, administer, and support this clustering technology.

At Course Completion

At the end of the course, students will be able to install, configure, plan implement, and troubleshoot Microsoft "Wolfpack" in a Windows NT® Server–based network environment.

Day 1

Module 1: Overview of Clustering and Microsoft "Wolfpack"

Topics:

What is clustering?

Clustering terminology

Cluster architecture

Cluster service components

Skills:

Students will be able to:

Define clustering.

Explain common clustering terms.

Describe the clustering architecture used by Microsoft "Wolfpack" and how it works with the Windows NT architecture.

Identify "Wolfpack" clustering components and explain how they interrelate with the architecture.

Module 2: Planning Your "Wolfpack" Deployment

Topics:

Performing a risk audit

Server operating procedures

Application auditing

Cluster models

Lab:

Planning your Microsoft "Wolfpack" deployment

Skills:

Students will be able to:

Perform a risk audit to determine if clustering is appropriate.

Identify server procedures, such as backing up, that will need to be modified once clustering is installed.

Perform application auditing.

Describe the different cluster models with the intent of implementing one or more.

Module 3: Installing "Wolfpack"

Installation requirements

Installing Microsoft "Wolfpack"

Lab:

Installing "Wolfpack"

 

Skills:

Students will be able to:

List the "Wolfpack" installation requirements.

Install "Wolfpack."

Day 2

Module 4: Configuring Groups, Disk Resources, and Network Resources

Introduction to configuring Microsoft "Wolfpack"

Administrative tasks

Cluster group configuration options

Cluster resource configuration options

Adding resources

Sharing files

Configuring Microsoft Internet Information Server to run on "Wolfpack"

Lab:

Configuring services to run under "Wolfpack"

Skills:

Students will be able to:

Define cluster groups and resources.

Implement cluster group configuration options.

Implement resource configuration options.

Module 5: Configuring "Wolfpack" Printers, Applications, and Services

Topics:

Sharing printers

Configuring other applications to run on Microsoft "Wolfpack"

Lab:

Configuring printers to run under "Wolfpack"

Skills:

Students will be able to:

Share printers on a cluster.

Configure other applications to run on "Wolfpack."
